First established in 1965, ALPINA is a famed German tuning outfit that’s renowned for turning already high-end BMW car models into genuinely world-class grand tourers. Recently acquired by BMW, ALPINA’s latest offering sees its signature blend of luxury and performance bestowed upon BMW’s ultra-capable M4, resulting in the new ALPINA B4 Gran Coupé.
Like the M4 that it’s based on, the new B4 Gran Coupé is powered by the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter engine, though the inline-six has been massaged to now produce 495hp and 538.4ft-lbs of torque — nearly 60ft-lbs more than the top-of-the-line Competition xDrive-spec M4. Mated to a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels, the B4 Gran Coupé’s powertrain allows the upgraded grand touring car to clock a 3.7-second 0-60mph time and a top speed of 187mph — 32mph faster than the M4 Competition xDrive’s top speed, despite being a four-door model. Further performance upgrades come from an ALPINA Sport Suspension package, a Sport rear diff, five driving modes, BOSCH DME engine management, ALPINA front and rear spoilers, 20” wheels using ALPINA’s classic 20-spoke design, and an ALPINA stainless steel exhaust ending in dual double-ended tailpipes.
In typical ALPINIA fashion, the interior of the luxury car has been heavily revised, gaining a plethora of high-end features, ALPINA-unique elements, and some decidedly premium materials. This includes naturally tanned LAVALINA leather seats and upholstery, ALPINA floormats, a HiFi sound system, an engraved ALPINA production plaque adorning the center console, and a handcrafted ALPINA steering wheel that’s swathed in the same LAVALINA leather and is available with optional matte black-anodized paddle shifters. The exterior of the car has also been gifted unique ALPINA badging.
Available now, the 2023 BMW ALPINA B4 Gran Coupé can be custom-configured on the famed tuning outfit’s website. Pricing for the B4 Gran Coupé starts at €91,800 (~$102,000).
