After a six-and-a-half-decade-long hiatus, Indian Motorcycles made its grand return to American Flat Track Racing in 2017. Using the company’s then all-new FTR750 factory race bike, Indian would secure a championship title in the AFT Twins class in its first season back — a feat that Indian’s “Wrecking Crew” has repeated each year since. To celebrate its factory team’s dominance on the dirt oval, Indian has now released a limited run of special Championship Edition FTR motorcycles.
A top-of-the-line variant of the FTR that comes loaded with a host of upgrades and model-specific features as standard, the Championship Edition bike proudly wears a commemorative Indian Motorcycle Racing bezel on the tank that shows each of Indian’s last five championship-winning seasons. The limited-edition model also comes with a replica Wrecking Crew race livery that features special gold accents and is paired with a set of red cast wheels. And, like the existing FTR Carbon, the Championship Edition also sports a seat cowl, headlight nacelle, front fender, and tank cover that are all crafted from exposed carbon fiber.
Leaning into the high-performance nature of the FTR750 that inspired this special-edition model, the FTR Championship Edition packs a premium set of componentry that includes a radially-mounted dual front disc Brembo brake setup, a titanium Akrapovič slip-on exhaust, an adjustable 43mm inverted fork, an adjustable piggyback rear shock, aluminum ProTaper flat track bars, and a cast wheel set with a 19” front hoop and an 18” rear item that both come wrapped in Dunlop DT3-R tires — all as standard. The bike also gets a myriad of high-tech elements such as a 4.33” TFT display and a trio of ride modes, plus wheelie control, rear-wheel lift mitigation, traction and stability control, and cornering ABS. At the heart of the bike is Indian’s powerful 1,203cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine that puts down 123hp and 88.5ft-lbs of torque.
Limited to just 400 units worldwide, the 2022 Indian FTR Championship Edition is available now in select markets, with pricing set at $16,499 — only a $3,500 premium over the base model FTR.
