Porsche enthusiasts historically have a reputation for being a rather staunch and conversation bunch with a propensity for perfectionism. As such, chopping up and irreversibly altering classic cars from the Stuttgart firm is widely viewed as being somewhat sacrilegious. Despite how they’re viewed by the larger Porsche community, however, a handful of daring individuals have opted to turn their nose at conformity and build out their own Porsche projects based on their own unique personal aesthetics and taste. And aside from Magnus Walker, no one individual encapsulates this notion better than Richard Gonçalves of ROCS Motorsport, which has just pulled the cover off of its latest one-off 911 dubbed the “Tatooine.”
Starting out as a 1990 Porsche 964 C4 Cabriolet, the Tatooine art car takes ample inspiration from the Star Wars universe — and not just the planet in the cinematic universe’s galaxy’s outer rim that the project takes its name from. The cabriolet donor has been treated to custom flared fenders at all four corners, along with a spoiler inspired by the Millennium Falcon. On top of being decorated in Aurebesh-inspired graphics, this custom body also sports a gas-cap delete and an intentionally rough finish that aims to replicate the exterior of a starship after traveling for countless miles in the vacuum of space.
Riding on a classic set of weathered five-arm Fuchs-style wheels shod in all-terrain tires, this Star Wars-themed safari build also features a skid plate, a custom front steel bumper with an integrated four-unit light pod, a custom rear bumper fitted with a tow hitch, and a full-size spare that’s been sunken into the 964’s hood. A set of recovery boards also now adorn both doors of the car. Like the project’s exterior, Tatooine’s cabin also boasts a weathered, lived-in look with faded seats and a matching dash and door panels. One of the build’s partners, Autodromo, also supplied a customized version of one of its new Group C digital watches. Completing the build is a custom vanity plate appropriately reading “TAT2INE.”
Though ROCS Motorsport’s Tatooine 911 build is already spoken for, the overall creativity and execution of this one-off 964 makes us extremely eager to see what Gonçalves conjures up next.
