Despite playing a pivotal role in the evolution of the Raging Bull’s exotics — serving as the predecessor to what’s widely considered the first modern supercar — the Lamborghini Urraco was developed as a more affordable alternative to the company’s range-topping models, not unlike the Ferrari Dino. With less than 800 specimens ever leaving the factory, the Urraco is also one of the rarest Lamborghinis ever produced — a fact that makes this recently-uncovered pre-production example so incredibly noteworthy.
Originally leaving the factory in November of 1972, this Urraco is said to be pre-production example number 19. Designed by Marcello Gandini for Bertone, this matching-numbers specimen not only retains its original engine, gearbox, and frame, but it also still wears its original Arancio factory paint job. The interior of the Lamborghini is also completely original and unrestored, looking like it could have rolled out of the factory last week.
As a pre-production example, this ’72 Urraco also sports several features that never appeared on the final production model — such as numerous interior details and a special badge on the boot. Though almost completely unrestored, this example did receive a major mechanical overhaul, with its engine being fully rebuilt by a former Lamborghini works mechanic. Despite being half a century old, this Urraco shows only 61,400 original kilometers (38,152 miles) on the odo, too.
Located in Munich, Germany, this 1972 Pre-Production Lamborghini Urraco example is currently for sale through Weekend Heroes, with an asking price of €105,000 (~ $108,500).
