Those familiar with Leatherman’s extensive range of multitools might believe there to be little left that would expand the options and capabilities of the brand’s already-impressive lineup. However, back in February, the Oregon-based gear brand launched its Garage division — a skunkworks-like sector focused on finding innovation in age-old technique and knowhow. Already, the Garage has churned out the Mr. Crunch, sporting the double-plier feature Tim Leatherman wanted to include back in his 1975 prototype, and the Darkside Multi-Tool, which played around with unique materials.
Now, for its third Batch release, Leatherman Garage has unveiled Parts, a five-tool device with interchangeable folding knife blades to go along with the bit driver and #6 and #8 Torx drives. Where other knife brands are focused on fixing a blade that won’t break off or come apart, Leatherman Garage has inverted that thought process by ensuring that you can swap between a work blade and an EDC with that same sense of security.
The sheepsfoot-like knife is made from 154CM stainless steel and the sharper work blade is built from CPM S30V steel. The device that helps you swap these out is attached via a lanyard hole at the other end of the layered G-10 handle. Altogether, this multitool has been made piecemeal from 26 different parts found in the factory, sporting a unique aesthetic as well, with its silver scales and green accents.
