Wristwatches are meant to be looked at — not stared at. In a world of smartwatches and wearables, we spend so much time fiddling with what’s on our wrists that we end up spending less time being attentive to the adventures and activities we’ve embarked on in the first place. A classic timepiece is supposed to be there when we need it; a security blanket that allows us to go have fun knowing that the time (along with some other basic functions) is being kept track of. Huckberry understands this, too, and has teamed up with Timex to reissue the latter’s iconic IRONMAN Flix sports watch from the ‘90s.

A cult following not just among endurance athletes but first responders and outdoorsmen, the Timex IRONMAN Flix was originally released in 1999 and still resembles a much simpler time. Just like the original, this new version sports a digital display that reads the time and date, and is capable of recording up to 5 alarms. There’s no GPS or Bluetooth, but there is a chronograph, countdown timer, and 10-item memo pad, all illuminated with INDIGLO Night-Light, with a hands-free option that’s activated in low light simply by raising your arm. Not to mention, it will only take you a fraction of the time to figure out how to use it compared to your brand-new smartwatch.

Unlike a lot of reissues that “blend the iconic style with modern sensibilities,” this IRONMAN Flix is a true replica. To preserve the integrity of the original timepiece, Huckberry and Timex made sure the only thing that was changed was the Lap memory, which increases from 30 to 100 (it recalls the total time, average lap time, and best lap time). Heck, Timex even went back into the archives to use the same case mold from ’99. Like the original, the 44mm case is made from resin and can be taken 100m underwater.
