Founded in 2015, SNECX Design Lab — also known as “SNECX Tan” — is a Malaysia-based workshop that strives to deliver envelope-pushing knife designs. This one-man operation first made a name for itself with the debut of the IFS-20 — an ultra-unique, limited-edition folder that’s held together using a single screw. Since then, SNECX has followed up its inaugural blade with a series of equally innovative designs. For SNECX Tan’s latest release, the Malaysian knifemaker has joined forces with WE Knife Co. to deliver an all-new model known as the Vision R.
The Vision R is constructed around a partially skeletonized 6AL4V titanium handle that’s equipped with SNECX Tan’s proprietary Superlock — an innovative spine-mounted lock-bar-style locking mechanism with the strength of a framelock. And, aside from a modified version that appeared on Sandrin Knives’ Torino model, the Vision R marks the first time the Superlock has ever been used on a production knife. Just below the Superlock, the Vision R also sports an ambidextrous spine-mounted pocket clip made from the same 6AL4V titanium.
Mated to the Superlock-equipped handle is a 3.54” reverse tanto blade that’s composed of ultra-premium CPM 20CV “super steel.” Deployed via an elongated thumb-hole opening, the blade is also guided by a caged ceramic ball-bearing pivot assembly that affords an incredibly smooth action. Weighing only 3.63oz, the Vision R measures 7.95” with its blade out. In addition to offering the Vision R in a bare titanium version and three additional anodized color options (bronze, blue, and black), WE is also producing an ultra-top-shelf Damascus steel variant.
The WE Knife Co. x SNECX Vision R Knife is currently available for preorder, with pricing set at $269 for the standard titanium and 20CV versions and $680 for the top-shelf Damascus-bladed variant.
