In 2010, nearly 120 years after the debut of Karl Elsener’s first official Swiss Army Knife, Victorinox unveiled its inaugural SAK to feature a Damascus steel blade. Each year since, the Swiss brand has maintained this tradition, releasing a new Damast Limited Edition model each summer, culminating in the latest addition to this limited edition layered blade steel series, the Victorinox Ranger 55 Mic Damast Limited Edition 2023.
Using the Victorinox’s Ranger model as its basis — which already stands as one of the best Swiss Army Knives for EDC — the Ranger 55 Mic Damast Limited Edition 2023 features several key tweaks and upgrades over the standard version of the 12-function SAK. Tipping the scales at 6.4oz, this limited edition offering sports a set of grippy off-white-colored Micarta scales. This limited release’s most noteworthy aspect, however, is undoubtedly its blade. While it shares the same size and profile as the blade on the standard Ranger, the Damast 2023-spec boasts a main blade composed of Dense Twist pattern powder metallurgy Damascus steel from Sweden’s Damasteel.
Additionally, like the regular Ranger, tools and functions on this LE Damast variant include a wood saw, can and bottle openers, a key ring, a corkscrew, a 3mm screwdriver, and a reamer, punch, and sewing awl combo item. With the exception of the Damasteel blade, every tool on this model has also received a polished finish. Rounding out the Ranger 55 Mic Damast 2023 is a classic Victorinox logo that’s been done in a muted, desaturated colorway that beautifully matches the SAK’s suite of tools and Damascus blade. And, just like with Victorinox’s previous year’s Damast releases, the 2023 model comes sold in a special gift and presentation box.
Limited to only 7,000 units worldwide — each of which is sequentially numbered — the Victorinox Ranger 55 Mic Damast Limited Edition 2023 is available now, with pricing set at $385.
