Pro-Tech Knives is shaping up to have an outstanding year in 2025. Despite it only being February, the boutique Southern California brand has already unveiled a slew of new model variants, several top-shelf semi-customs, and numerous collaborations, ranging from an automatic Redencion done in conjunction with Chavez Knives, and a balisong knife created through a strategic partnership with Squid Industries. Pro-Tech’s most noteworthy release this year, however, is almost certainly the newly unveiled Synapse Automatic Knife, born out of a new collab with Vero Engineering.
A Bevy Of Firsts
There’s a myriad of reasons that the new Vero x Pro-Tech knife is so significant. For starters, it not only represents Vero Engineering’s first-ever collab, but it’s also their first-ever American-made knife, as well as their first-ever automatic model. It also obviously represents Vero’s first-ever joint effort with Pro-Tech.

Vero By Pro-Tech
Though there are other knife brands meticulously crafting auto knives, Pro-Tech is widely considered to be the best. As a result, already elite knife companies often turn to Pro-Tech to have it redesign their existing manual folders and produce them as autos—which is the case with Vero here. To bring this project to life, Vero tasked Pro-Tech with automating its Synapse knife.
The Nitty Gritty
Pro-Tech and Vero have yet to reveal exact specs for the automatic Synapse, but we do have some basic info we can glean—and some stuff we can confidently assume. We do know the knife will be constructed around an anodized aluminum handle capped off with a machined and contoured G10 or Micarta face on its show side. The automatic version of the Synapse maintains the same basic design as its manual-opening counterpart, and we’ve confirmed with Protech that the new blade clocks in at 3.56 inches in length.
Unlike the manual version, the auto model will also be steeled in top-shelf CPM MagnaCut, which I personally see as a step up, even from M390. On top of a pearl button inlay for its auto-firing (and lock) push button mechanism, the knife also comes outfitted with Vero’s signature milled titanium deep carry pocket clip, though it’s been mounted with internal hardware with a super clean look. Also carried over from the manual Synapse is its drop point profile, along with one of Vero’s hallmark square fuller notches on the blade’s off side. While it doesn’t serve any purpose like it does on the manual models, I nonetheless really appreciate the fact that Pro-Tech included this signature Vero design element on the auto variant—especially because Pro-Tech tells us that adding this detail was extremely difficult to pull off.

Why We Love It
While it is subjective, I’d still argue that Vero Engineering delivers some of the very best looking knives on the market. So, there’s something really special about seeing Pro-Tech take Vero’s signature design language and bring it to life using its usual brand of ultra-exacting craftsmanship, ultra-precise tolerances, and overall world-class fit and finish. Add to that the handful of noteworthy firsts that this knife represents, and you can probably start to understand why we’re so excited about the Vero Engineering x Pro-Tech Synapse Auto.
