The James Brand originally introduced the first generation of its Ellis model in 2018 — first with a limited-edition carbon-scaled variant before rolling out a mass-production version early the following year. And after several successful years on the market, TJB has now used customer feedback to deliver an even more utilitarian version of the Ellis that now boasts a set of collapsible scissors.
The new version of the Ellis retains its predecessor’s 3.5” handle length and 2.6” partially-serrated Sandvik 12C27 steel drop point blade with a pass-through nail-nick, though the first-gen’s fold-out bottle opener has been jettisoned in favor of a pair of collapsible, Swiss Army Knife-style scissors. The bottom of the tool also sports the original version’s “All-Things” scraper, flat-head screwdriver, and pry tool combo item, though the bail adorning the Ellis’ bottom end has been replaced with a deep-carry wire pocket clip.
Tipping the scales at only 2.6oz, the latest TJB Ellis model packs an incredible amount of utility in a super compact and pocketable package, with a host of functions crammed into tiny dimensions. And, like its predecessor, the new version of the Ellis is built to last, engineered to survive a lifetime of everyday carry use. Measuring 6.5” overall when open, this non-locking slipjoint multi-tool is thus far being produced in three different versions: an all blacked-out variant with G-10 scales, an OD green G-10 version with black tools, and an OD Micarta-scaled model with bare stainless steel tools.
