Since 1958, Japanese outdoors company Snow Peak has made a name for itself by constructing durable and functional clothing and gear. An adventurer in his own right, founder Yukio Yamai was unsatisfied by the climbing gear already out there and was dead set on creating his own. Over 60 years later, Snow Peak is a paradigm of its class.
Following up last year’s collaboration with Toned Trout, a relatively new company that started in 2018, Snow Peak joins forces yet again with the Japanese fishing brand named after the Tone water system in the Gunma Prefecture of Japan. Two of the standouts in this latest collection are the flexible guide vest and the fishing shell jacket.
The vest, hemmed to hit your waist, is waterproof and tear-resistant with a mesh body, and comes equipped with several flap pockets on the front and a large one in back. The adjustable straps ensure a tight fit for less intrusiveness. Likewise, the fishing shell jacket is built with two-and-a-half layers of waterproof nylon fabric. Made to hit below your waist for a loose fit on your body, the coat also features a removable hood, drop shoulders, and looped closures at the cuff.
Among the other pieces in the set are an ultra-light titanium cup, a sun guard cap, a rain hat, water-resistant socks, cargo shorts, and a pair of polyester shirts — one emblazoned with a graphic of a Japanese yamame fish and another with Mt. Tanigawa. The collection is now available at both Snow Peak’s and Toned Trout’s online stores.
