In our industry, we see countless backpacks from different brands around the world, and we certainly have our favorites. That said, when a new player pops up in the space who seems to be putting their own spin on the backpack but without necessarily reinventing the wheel, we take notice.
Recently debuting on Kickstarter, Seven Peaks has stepped away from their comfort zone of camper blankets and folding chairs to tackle something entirely different: their first-ever backpack. Coming after a year of mountain testing and prototyping by the Spanish brand, the All Versions Backpack challenges the norm with a modular, customizable outdoor pack that can be transposed for other activities with ease.

A Carabiner-Driven Design Philosophy
The All Versions Backpack boasts an expandable compartment system, which is nothing revolutionary but also comes with an integrated carabiner that serves three purposes. It adjusts the bag’s volume from 22L to 34L in a matter of seconds, secures your gear, and gives you a makeshift anti-theft mechanism on the bag.
You’ll also find over 30 features packed into the bag’s 1.65-pound frame. For instance, the front-opening design gives you the full-access view we love in travel packs, while a secret laptop pocket with external quick access is perfect for daily commuters, not just hikers. But perhaps our favorite aspect is the removable fanny pack, giving the bag versatility without adding any bulk.
The bag also features small but useful elements like the incorporated whistle on the sternum strap and an insulated pocket for cold food. Even the water bottle pocket can fit a 2-liter thermos, which is way more than more bags can claim.

3Pac
Seven Peaks claims their triple-layer PAC material is “as light as nylon but 10 times stronger,” which is a relative of the ever-popular X-Pac. The crosshatched military-grade fabric brings waterproof and abrasion-resistant properties that should handle everything from urban commutes to trail runs. On the rear, the back panel is ventilated and the lower portion is designed to reduce friction. Ergonomics is the name of the game all around, with a triple adjustment system across shoulders, chest, and hips.

Smart Storage Solutions
Beyond the expandable main compartment, the All Versions features 10+ quick-access compartments all over, including a secret back panel pocket with a waterproof cover. Low-profile compartments on both shoulder straps include a security pocket on the right and a purpose-built phone pocket on the left, which admittedly favors right-handed users more than lefties. What’s more, the bag is designed to stand up on its own, and on different surfaces.
