Alessandro Colombatto is a second-generation artisan that hails from a family that’s dedicated its existence to engineering and crafting tungsten carbide. Recognizing how well this unique material works as a blade construction, Colombatto would eventually go on to found Sandrin Knives and begin producing fixed blades and folders with ultra-rugged and fully-corrosion-proof tungsten carbide blades. And while thus far, the company has primarily focused on churning out highly-stylized takes on classic slipjoint pocket knife designs, Sandrin has now branched out into the more modern everyday carry knife space with the debut of the all-new Monza folder.
The Monza is crafted around a 4.29” handle that’s equipped with an idiosyncratic Powerlock-inspired Recoil Lock Mechanism — a sturdier and more high-performance take on a back-lock. Equipped with a reversible tip-up, deep-carry titanium pocket clip, the handle is crafted from the buyer’s choice of either titanium or even more top-shelf zirconium — which weigh just 3.45oz and 4.30oz, respectively. In total, this knife measures 7.67” when open, too.
As one would expect from Sandrin, the Monza’s handle comes paired with a completely rust- and corrosion-proof 3.38” tungsten carbide blade that massively benefits from the company’s StaySharp Technology, enabling it to stay sharp for roughly four times as long as traditional high-end blade steels — and is rated at a wildly-impressive 71 for hardness on the Rockwell scale, making it one of the hardest and most durable blades ever conceived. Smoothly guided by a set of ceramic bearings, this modified drop point blade also sports ambidextrous dual thumb-studs and precision jimping along its chamfered spine, adding a dash of style while also bolstering grip and control.
Available now, the Sandrin Knives Monza knife is priced at $399 for the titanium handle version and $499 for the ultra-premium zirconium handle variant.
