Who Is La Marzocco?

Porsche is a name that needs no introduction — especially if you’ve even given a cursory look around our site. However, La Marzocco is arguably just as important in its respective industry yet a name only real enthusiasts tend to sling. During the ‘90s, the Italian brand’s dual-boiler Linea Classic was one of the brands responsible for the massive growth of the upscale coffee house revolution, helping baristas achieve Italian-quality espresso and cappuccino with simplicity. This was followed by the Linea Mini, which brought this tech to the home barista. The current collaboration is based on the Linea Micra, a smaller version of the Classic.

Porsche x La Marzocco Linea Micra Basics

The most striking of the pair of espresso machines is the Martini Racing edition, featuring the iconic blue and red livery from the 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR, which won the Targa Florio that year. The second, more refined-looking variant is the Slate Grey Neo, with a classic espresso machine design but with the same inspiration as the Martini Racing edition. While the more colorful model is about $400 more expensive in price, both machines operate the same way.

The most obvious homage comes in the way of the pressure gauges, which look just like a speedometer on a Porsche. However, there’s a lot more to this collaboration than that. Made from soft-finished aluminum, the knobs are inspired by the Drive Mode button on the car’s steering wheel, while the drip and cup trays take inspiration from the Porsche GT3 Touring package. Also, various co-branding can be seen around the machine, including a Porsche plate on the side that gives the edition number out of 911.

What’s Under the Hood?

Like a standard Linea Micra, these machines are designed to heat up and clean easily. You can swap the multi-portafilter between a single, double, or bottomless spout. These spouts are constructed of high-tech resin, so they don’t absorb any temperature that would otherwise be drawn out of the espresso itself.

You also get a mechanical brewing paddle for extraction control, an insulated steam wand, a hot water spout for rinsing your portafilter, and integrated LED lighting. Lastly, the machine can be controlled remotely via the La Marzocco Home app.

If you’re in need of a quality stainless steel conical grinder and have almost two grand to spare, you can pick up the Porsche x La Marzocco Pico Espresso Grinder as well.
