It seems almost counterintuitive that the very hat that’s designed to keep the sun’s heat off of your head can also be the same hat that makes you sweat more. Luckily, we live in a day and age where performance caps are designed with this very paradox in mind. Nike recently came out with one of the best we’ve seen with its Fly Dri-FIT ADV Unstructured Cooling Cap.

Purpose-built for hot days and moist heads, the Fly cap is built with a polyester shell employing Nike’s Dri-FIT ADV tech designed for sweat-wicking, featuring advanced cooling and mapped zones for breathability. Likewise, the AeroAdapt panels on top have vents that are activated when you sweat and keep an optimal temperature on your scalp when your workout really heats up.

If the material tech isn’t enough, Nike has also equipped the hat with pockets along the crown that can store a trio of specifically-molded ice cubes. The cap comes with a trio of silicone molds that create ice to perfectly fit in the zippered front and side pockets of the hat. When the ice melts, the liquid is channeled, via waterproof fabric, into the perforated polyester cape in the back to cool down your neck.

When the ice is inserted, a Swoosh logo turns blue so you know it’s ready. But if there’s no ice inside, you can theoretically use the zippered compartments to store smaller items like a key or cash. Other features include reflective details for low-light activities and a polyester-spandex sweatband to keep the cap snug on your head and for keeping your forehead dry. Plus, a bungee closure has been affixed to the rear for fine-tuning your fit.
Priced at $145, the Fly Dri-FIT ADV Unstructured Cooling Cap is up for grabs right now from Nike’s web store. It’s currently available in White/Anthracite.
