Nike’s outdoor-focused ACG label launched in 1989 with a handful of hiking boots and the Huascaran, a GORE-TEX jacket, as part of its debut collection. And ever since, the All Conditions Gear range has known how to equip outdoorsmen no matter what time of year. So as the winter weather continues, don’t feel like you need to stay indoors. Instead opt for a silhouette purpose-built for less-than-ideal conditions and hit the trail once again with the “Lava Loft” Jacket.
With the ACG line re-launching this week, we’re looking at one of the finest clothing options in the collection. Undergoing lab research before getting tested in inclement weather, the Lava Loft starts with a polyester-based Therma-FIT shell that’s designed to retain heat but has also been insulated with down-filled baffles that utilize at least 90% white/grey duck down. Available in all black and Safety Orange, the jacket’s wavy stitching brings a sort of mapped insulation to target certain areas, while the sides are significantly less bulky for movement.
Unlike other puffers on the market, this coat offers a slimmer profile, as well as much-welcomed breathability thanks to AeroLoft perforations in high-heat areas. When you don’t need it anymore, you can simply pack it down into its own internal pocket, equipped with a lanyard loop for attaching it to your bag or belt.
Weighing just 10oz total, the Lava Loft is not only featherweight but gives you plenty of mobility on the trail with four-way stretch panels made of polyester (80%) and spandex (20%). Other features include a bungee system at the hem to keep out wind and a 2-way zipper down the front for a more tailored fit. You also get reflective elements on the ACG and Swoosh logos.
