Merrell has been churning out outdoor performance shoes dating back to the early 1980s, so it’s well aware of what makes a trusty pair of sneakers. By fusing its Hydro Moc silhouette with the look of a classic pair of white kicks, the Michigan-bred brand has crafted its newest performance silhouette, the Hydro Runner.
The new shoe features the same EVA midsole and upper shell as its low-top water shoe predecessor, which results in a flexible and lightweight fit that is as friendly to your feet as it is to the planet. As far as other similarities go, this innovative clog-sneaker hybrid features oval-shaped openings across the upper but differs substantially from the original design thanks to its breathable mesh sock liner that gives the shoe more structure and a snugger fit.
Additional support elements include a pair of nylon pull tabs found on the tongue and heel, which make the Hydro Runner easier to slip into. Merrell first released the Hydro Moc in 2020 to the delight of everyone from the common outdoorsman to none other than Kanye West, the latter of whom took direct inspiration from the design for one of his latest Yeezy silhouettes. With that in mind, it’s safe to assume this new iteration will have the same effect on the streetwear fashion space as it will on the trails.
If you’ve been searching for a perfect pair of shoes to finish the summer, look no further than these unique steppers. The new Hydro Runners are available on Merrell Australia’s webshop for $150.
