The premium EDC market has spent the last few years climbing into M390 territory, where titanium framelocks regularly clear $300 and nobody blinks. Ideaspark, a Kickstarter-bred outfit with a knack for tiny titanium oddities, is running the opposite play.
The TiNova II is the follow-up to last year’s well-received magnetic original, and at $45 on launch day it might be the most fun you can have with a folder right now.

A Smoother Sequel
The original TiNova was a rectangular slab held shut by magnets, which was charming but a little stiff in the hand. The II rounds everything off into a smooth pebble-shaped silhouette that looks more like a Tile tracker or a USB drive than a knife, which is exactly the point. At 2.54″ closed and a hair under half an inch thick, it disappears on a keychain.
Ideaspark also ditched the magnets in favor of a proper ball bearing pivot, which should be obvious in the action.

Two Spins, One Hand
The deployment is the whole show. There’s a short spin where you fidget the scales back and forth like a magnetic slider toy, and a long spin where you pin one scale and flick your wrist, sending the other on a full 360° trip around the pivot that deploys the blade in the process. The idea here is to mimic butterfly-knife flair while keeping it legal and keychain-friendly, minus the hours of training and bandaged fingertips (something we all know all too well).
The handles themselves are milled from Grade 5 titanium with internal concaves that nest the blade neatly when closed. There are also two tritium slots drilled into the scales, so you can drop in vials for 25 years of low-light glow.

A Real Knife, Not a Toy
It would be easy to write the TiNova II off as a fidget spinner with a sharp edge, but there might be some bite to the bark here. The 1.59″ drop-point blade is ground from D2 at a stout 3mm thick, which is a perfectly reasonable choice at this price point. D2 isn’t the most exotic steel on the market, but it holds an edge, takes abuse, and sharpens up without specialty stones.
For a keychain knife meant to handle tape, twine, and the occasional Amazon box, it fits the bill nicely.
