Hot Wheels Inaugurates Its Ferrari Partnership With a Heritage Set That Pairs Old with New

Collecting cars is, well, expensive. But if you’re anything like us, you look to the smaller, more affordable ways to grow an arsenal of automobiles: miniatures.

As the de facto king of mini motors, Hot Wheels has long been offering a way to perpetuate your automotive enthusiasm without spending hundreds of thousands — or millions — of dollars. And for actual owners of these pricey vehicles, these miniaturized versions can even be an extension of what you have in the garage.

Announcing their partnership back in January, Hot Wheels and Ferrari have now unveiled their first release in a multi-year collaborative effort — the two brands’ first team-up in over a decade. Let’s take a look…

Classic and Modern Performance

Inaugurating the partnership between the two iconic brands is the Heritage Set, featuring 1:64 scale versions of two iconic Ferraris: the 1970 312 P and the 499P Modificata.

A nod to the first-ever Ferrari produced by Hot Wheels in 1969, the 312 P oozes with vintage styling, including the bright red Spectraflame coat with racing number 25 on the doors and hood, along with deep-dish Neo-Classics Redline wheels. Inside the clear windows, you can see the deep red interior. Meanwhile, the engine cover opens up for a realistic touch.

Counterpointing the vintage 312 P is the modern-day 499P Modificata, which is the 2024 track-only hypercar from Ferrari that launched the marque’s Sport Prototipi Clienti program. The prototype is also Ferrari’s current FIA competitor for the World Endurance Championship.

For the miniature version, Hot Wheels has given the car a Spectraflame rosso corsa body coat with racing number 24 on the hood and sides, while pinstripes across the top are in the color of the Italian flag. Featuring a removable engine cover as well, this car rides on 10-spoke Real Riders wheels. Through the lightly smoke-tinted windows you can view the black interior.

Not Your Average Hot Wheels

While Hot Wheels collectors will surely note the steeper price tag on this release. As opposed to the $1.25 on most Hot Wheels, the Heritage Set is priced at $100, in part thanks to the sturdier build and authenticity of the recreation. To garnish the release, the company presents it inside a hinged “soft-touch” box that can be used for displaying the cars as well. The outside is decorated with Hot Wheels and Ferrari branding.

What’s Next?

This is just the opening number in a long-ranging release schedule for Hot Wheels and Ferrari. Later this year, we’ll see mini die-cast versions of the F40 Competizione, 365 GTB4 Competizione, and SF90 Stradale, all for just $1.25 each. However, more premium models will come out as well, including collectible-grade versions of the LaFerrari, F50, and 250 GTO with more refined detailing. These will be a bit pricier, retailing for as high as $20.

If you like the retro feel of this current Ferrari set, you might look out for the vintage-inspired set coming out in October, which includes the Ferrari 250 GTO and Fiat 642 RN2 Bartoletti Transporter. Also, a remote-controlled version of the SF90 Stradale will come out in June. This 1:64 version is expected to retail for $20.
