In operation since 1902, Buck Knives has a long and illustrious history of blades to draw from when penning new models. And while Buck has traditionally traded in more classically-styled knives, the Ohio-based outfit is now diversifying its lineup with the debut of a pair of all-new everyday carry-focused automatic folding knives.
The first of the two new auto blades is the 838 Deploy, a tactically-inspired, EDC-friendly auto model with a lockable, push-button deployment, a Cerakote-finished aluminum handle, and a removable, deep-carry pocket clip. Weighing in at 4.25oz, this American-made knife also packs a 3.25” drop point blade that’s made from a Paul Bos heat-treated 154CM blade steel. The polymer-ceramic composite (Cerakote) coating also adorns the 838 Deploy’s pocket clip and blade.
Buck has also used the design of the 838 Deploy to deliver the more compact 839 Mini. Sporting a truncated version of the same Cerakoted aluminum handle, this California-legal auto knife features a stubby 1.889” drop point blade that’s composed of the same 154CM steel and benefits from the same Cerakoting and Paul Bos heat treatment. Buck is also producing both knives in two different military-inspired color options — burnt bronze handles and a tungsten-colored blade or a blacked-out variant.
The Buck Knives 838 Deploy and 839 Mini Deploy auto knives are both available now, with pricing set at $190 and $155, respectively. Buck Knives also stands behind both new models with its Forever Warranty, which offers to replace any defective materials or construction for life.
