Whether it’s from a downed Luftwaffe fighter or an Abrams tank, Böker Plus has developed a penchant for up-cycling vintage military vehicles into custom-forged Damascus steel knives. And the latest war machine to be broken down by the Solingen outfit and repurposed into a limited run of blades is North American Aviation’s mighty P51 Mustang.
Dubbed the P-51 Damast, this aircraft-inspired folder was designed by Steve Kelly and includes a myriad of visual nods to the single-seat fighter. Weighing 3.81oz, the knife is pieced together around a frame-locking titanium handle that features a faux rivet motif, red-anodized hardware, and a blue-anodized pivot collar that bares the U.S. Army’s Silver Star logo. The handle also comes paired with a matching titanium pocket clip that’s attached to the knife using red-anodized hardware, as well.
Mated to the titanium handle is a 3.35” spearpoint blade that’s forged from steels sourced from genuine P51 aircraft parts. Sporting a thickness of 0.14”, the blade boasts an 80-layer Damascus construction that was handmade in America by Chad Nichols. Alongside a flipper tab, the blade can also be deployed via a uniquely-shaped thumb-hole opening that’s modeled after the shape of the P51’s cockpit’s Plexiglas canopy. Produced in extremely limited numbers, the knife also comes with a nylon carrying pouch.
Available for order in the coming weeks, the Böker Plus P-51 Damast Knife has been priced at $529.
