APL Teams Up with McLaren to Craft a Pair of High-Performance Runners

Los Angeles-based shoemaker APL (Athletic Propulsion Labs) is a major player in technical footwear and has managed to set itself apart from the competition from both a performance and pricing standpoint. Be that as it may, the latter comes as a result of the brand’s extremely high quality and innovation, and its head-turning collaboration with McLaren (yes, that McLaren) ensures nothing short of optimized operating.

The APL McLaren HySpeed is an entirely new silhouette that aims to serve as a performance running shoe constructed for anything, as the brand rightfully labels it “a grand-tourer for your feet.” Its innovative midsole is comprised of three separate pieces, including APL’s signature FutureFoam pods at the front and rear for stability when changing directions. Then, a full-length carbon fiber plate is sandwiched between the two pods and topped with a nitrogen-infused midsole to provide unrivaled responsiveness and energy return.

The shoe’s upper makes immaculate use of APL’s TechLoom base, a non-stretch material with bits of reinforced yarn that can withstand strenuous scenarios. It even has a TPU toe bumper for added support and a perforated microfiber tongue that was inspired by the sleek accents of McLaren’s supercars. Moreover, the shoe’s interior emulates the plush seats of McLaren’s range-topping Senna, featuring three protruding cushions with a soft feel that don’t skimp on secureness. Lastly, the HySpeed features APL’s proprietary Soufflé sock liner for an extra comfortable trek.

While McLaren’s supercar models may not be very obtainable, these high-end running shoes should make up for it. APL’s McLaren HySpeed is available in a handful of colors (including the pictured “McLaren Orange”) on APL’s online store for $450.
