Over the past 125 years, Filson has become synonymous with outdoor-ready clothing and gear. And now, the Seattle-based company is celebrating just like any 125-year-old should: with some beer.

Collaborating with fellow Pacific Northwest brand Stillwater, Filson is coming out with a series of five beers, each one making a nod at a different era of the company’s history. Among the first two that dropped this week is the Maritime Gose, a sour ale based on the German brew that’s been making a comeback as of late. This particular expression uses sea salt and an overnight souring process that imparts tart notes of citrus, pine, and grass, evoking the milieu in which Filson resides.

The second beer coming out is the Gold Rush Rustic IPA, a West Coast-style IPA that pays homage to the Scandanavian roots of the Seattle area, using the Nordic yeast Kveik, which imparts citrus notes to go along with the pine and grapefruit found in the hops.

No stranger to thinking outside the box, Stillwater’s collaboration with Filson is eyebrow-raising to say the least, albeit one that we love to see come to fruition. The first two beers in the series drop this week at craft beer retailers for around $16 per 4-pack, with the other three set to come out sometime next year.
