Originally debuting as the Caswell Morphing Karambit on Kickstarter in 2017 before being adopted by CRKT and put into mass production in 2019, the Provoke is a uniquely-designed self-defense knife that sports a clever Kinematic folding and deployment system. The immense popularity of the Provoke has prompted CRKT to produce the morphing Karambit in a slew of different variants and color options, though for 2023, the knife is getting its biggest update yet with the release of the new CRKT Provoke EDC.

As its name suggests, the latest version of the Provoke was designed specifically for everyday carry use. Alongside gaining a royal blue-finished aluminum handle, the standard model’s 2.41” hawkbill blade has been jettisoned in favor of a more utilitarian and less self-defense-focused 2.56” drop point item. Boasting a thickness of 0.27”, the new blade retains its predecessor’s D2 blade steel construction.

Additionally, the Provoke EDC also maintains Joe Caswell’s Kinematic folding system, karambit finger hole-equipped frame, and integrated pocket clip. The new model ultimately allows its carrier to enjoy the idiosyncratic deployment of the original Provoke in a more practical, EDC-focused package. And, while we anticipate CRKT releasing a sheath for the new EDC-spec knife, it remains to be seen if the brand will produce serrated, compact, or additional color variants like it has with the original model.
