Back in August of 2021, Cadillac announced that it would be making a grand return to WEC and IMSA competition with an all-new LMDh racer. Fast forward to today and the Wreath and Crest company has now officially revealed what it has dubbed the Project GTP Hypercar.
Representing Cadillac’s third-generation prototype race car, this hypercar will mark the American marque’s first entry into the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 20 years. Developed through a three-way collaboration between Cadillac Design, Cadillac Racing and Dallara, the Project GTP machine boasts an ultra-sleek bodywork design with a massive state-of-the-art forged carbon fiber aero kit with a massive front slipper, a central roof-scoop, air blades set behind each wheel, and an oversized rear wing. In addition to the badge on the nose of the car, Project GTP also sports numerous design nods to existing Cadillac cars such as the vertically-oriented LED headlights.
While Cadillac has yet to reveal any performance or power figures, the company has stated that the Project GTP Hypercar will be kicked along by an all-new 5.5-liter double overhead cam V8 engine that massively benefits from a hybrid drive system that provides additional power and keeps the engine’s turbocharger(s) spooled up to ideal operating RPM.
Cadillac’s hypercar class racer is slated to begin on-track testing later this summer before eventually making its competition debut at the 2023 Rolex 24 at Daytona. And, between Cadillac’s 2017, 2018, and 2021 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship titles, the firm’s four consecutive Rolex 24 wins, and its Michelin North American Endurance Cup titles (from 2017 to 2020), we anticipate the manufacturer to deliver an extremely competitive racecar with the Project GTP Hypercar.
