Founded by Drew Bowler in 1985, Bowler Motors is unequivocally one of the world’s most renowned Land Rover customization shops, with a more than 35-year-history of churning out immensely-capable rally-grade builds for both racing and general off-roading. And while the Belper-based builder already offers an impressive range of made-to-order builds and conversions, the company is now expanding its catalog with the addition of the all-new Bowler Extreme.
Offered as a conversion for existing models or as a complete turnkey vehicle, the Bowler Extreme is available on Land Rover’s vintage 90, 110, or 130 Defender models. Based on the blueprint that Bowler created for the custom Defender that was famously featured in the 2015 James Bond flick Spectre, the Extreme starts with the company’s Stage 2 performance package which is comprised of a race-spec intercooler and a remapped ECU that together bolster the Defender’s horsepower and torque output. Compensating for the boost in power is Bowler’s Big Brake Kit, which adds modern four-pot calipers and 334mm rotors to the mix.
What really makes the Bowler Extreme shine, however, is its generous selection of off-road upgrades. This includes a Fast Road suspension kit with an extra 2” of lift, a custom steel front bumper, an auxiliary light-equipped roof rack, rugged Optimill Ltd door hinges, perforated rock sliders, multiple tow hook and recovery points, a Bowler rear step kit, and massively flared wheel arches at all four corners that open up space to provide additional room and suspension travel for the Extreme’s 16” beadlock wheels and the 35” BFGoodrich tires they come shod in. The conversion also includes a heavily-reworked interior that sees the cabin bestowed with Recaro seats, a MOMO steering wheel, a GPS-equipped Alpine infotainment system, an Alcantara headliner, upgraded soundproofing, and custom Bowler shifters.
Made on an individual built-to-order basis, the Bowler Extreme Land Rover Defender is available for order now, with interested parties being instructed to contact the shop via its website or social media channels. And, in typical Bowler fashion, only a small number of examples will be built each year.
