Over the last decade, the International Harvester Scout has experienced an enormous influx in interest. Used specimens have been spiking in value and Volkswagen (which now owns the rights to the brand) has even revealed plans to launch a modern electrified take on the Scout in the coming years. The popularity of the truck coupled with its steadily increasing value have collectively given way to a growing number of high-end Scout-based restomod projects — one of which has just come up for auction via Bring a Trailer.
At the heart of the build is a 5.7-liter Chevy V8 crate engine that’s been bestowed with numerous upgrades including FiTech Go Street fuel injection, an aluminum radiator with electric cooling fans, a chrome JEGS-branded air cleaner and valve covers, and a stainless-steel dual exhaust system. A three-speed automatic transmission and a Dana dual-range transfer case enable the Scout II to send power to all four wheels, or just the rear tires. The project also boasts numerous off-road upgrades in the form of a Rough Country 4″ suspension lift, powder-coated 17″ US Wheel steel wheels shod in 33″ tires, black flared wheel arches, aftermarket bumpers, LED headlights set in the factory unit’s original housing, and a full-sized spare mounted on a swing-out tire carrier.
Now sporting a three-row seating setup with front pilots chairs set on swivel mounts, the bespoke interior of the Scout II restomod build features brown vinyl upholstery with plaid seat and door panel inserts, a new HVAC setup, floor-mounted shifters, lap belts, a four-arm split-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel, and an upgraded audio system comprised of a Bluetooth stereo, Kicker 6×9″ speakers, and a powered subwoofer. Alongside a removable tan Softopper soft top, the exterior of the truck has also been cloaked in a dark red paint job with the Scout II’s factory graphics stripes recreated in black.
Currently located in Los Angeles, California, this 1977 International Harvester Scout II Traveler Restomod (Chassis # G0102GGD36108) is currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer where (as of the time of writing) bidding has reached $40,000 (with seven days remaining on the sale).
