One of the hallmarks of the everyday carry space is utility, and while we fall in line with that belief, we also agree that utility never has to concede style points. After all, if these are items that you’ll have on your person throughout the day, why not let them augment your look as much as they augment your life? In particular, REC Watches’ limited edition 901 GW Exoskeleton timepiece epitomizes our contention by featuring the color scheme, and even construction material, from the Porsche 993 Remastered “Carbon Exoskeleton” Commission by Gunther Werks. With the carbon-bodied and blue accented design as our muse, we curated a list of stylish EDC offerings that blend form and function.
901 GW Exoskeleton
This stellar timepiece is the result of a two-year collaboration between REC Watches and Gunther Werks, which features 6-piece case made with recycled carbon fiber from the Porsche 993 that was remastered by Gunther Werks. It also sports a Swiss-made SELLITA SW510 B, Elaboré-grade automatic chronograph movement and an aggressively cool dial with BGW9 blue Super-LumiNova on the hour and minute hands to parallel the beauty of the remastered Porsche. The 901 GW Exoskeleton has an outer case that’s made of sandblasted 316L stainless steel, a middle case made of a blend of new forged carbon and recycled from the carbon roofs of Gunther Werks’ Exoskeleton car, and a Sapphire Crystal with 3 layers of anti-reflective coating.
Fantom Carbon Fiber Minimalist Wallet
Versatility is a hallmark of the everyday carry space, and as far as wallets are concerned, you can’t get more versatile than a minimalist wallet. Fantom’s offering fuses the best aspects of wallets and money clips with a wallet that only carries the essentials. It allows you to carry up to seven cards and features a carbon fiber construction and cobalt blue money clip that make it look like it’s part of the REC Watches x Gunther Werks collaboration.
Montblanc StarWalker Precious Resin Ballpoint Pen
A gorgeous pen that features a precious resin stone at its top to parallel the theme of form and function. The Montblanc StarWalker precious resin ballpoint pen is practically a working piece of art. It features a platinum-coated clip with embossed Montblanc brand name and individual serial number, as well as platinum-coated fittings and a black precious resin barrel. Keeping in line with the theme, the StarWalker sports a blue translucent dome beneath the Montblanc emblem, reminiscent of the Earth emerging above the lunar horizon. This attention to detail epitomizes Montblanc’s reputation for creating out-of-this-world pens.
Persol 714SM Steve McQueen Limited Edition Sunglasses
There’s cool, and then there’s Steve McQueen. In fact, Steve McQueen’s nickname was appropriately: “the king of cool”. Given his unparalleled style and legendary mythos, it only made sense for him to wear a pair of sunglasses that were as powerfully awesome as he was. Enter Persol: the iconic sunglasses company that made the first-ever folding glasses, the 714. After McQueen wore a pair in the 1968 film The Thomas Crown Affair, the glasses became a worldwide sensation, and Persol continues to honor the actor’s legacy today with this limited-edition version of the shades.
