In recent years, a growing number of major manufacturers have been making a push in a more sustainable direction, utilizing post-consumer content for materials and lessening the carbon footprint caused by their production and distribution. One such brand is adidas, which has not only been heavily leaning into the use of recycled materials, but has also set some ambitious goals to reduce its impact on the planet including using only recycled polyester in its products by 2024, lowering its carbon footprint by at least 30% by 2030, and going entirely climate neutral by 2050.
Another eco-focused initiative from the German activewear brand is the partnership it formed with Parley in 2015 to deliver garments and footwear made from reclaimed ocean plastics — giving way to adidas’ Primeblue material and collection. And after the continued success of this range, adidas is now looking to expand its environmentally-focused program to its outdoor-ready TERREX lineup with the release of its new TERREX MYSHELTER Jacket. Combing the classic aesthetics of adidas MYSHELTER range with the performance and functionality offered by the TERREX label, the TERREX MYSHELTER jacket is constructed around a woven shell that’s partially derived from post-consumer content. To bring this new halo product to market, Parley teamed up with PrimaLoft to develop high-performance insulation from plastic waste that’s composed of recycled fibers that boast remarkable quick-drying properties, are extremely durable, lightweight, and breathable, and offer stellar thermal efficiency. Completely devoid of any dyes, the jacket sports a natural white hue, contrasting black waterproof zippers and pulls, and sees its innovative insulation locked in between an idiosyncratic stitch pattern. The spine of the jacket is also adorned in a trio of black vertical lines — a subtle but clear nod to adidas’ classic Triple Stripe logo.
The adidas TERREX MYSHELTER PrimaLoft Jacket will be available on the manufacturer’s website for $220 beginning October 15, though we anticipate this being the first of many new products to benefit from this envelope-pushing insulation.
