Big things are happening over at Volvo as it makes the shift towards fully-electric mobility by 2030, but you shouldn’t be surprised. Even before it was cachet, the Swedish car brand has always been at the cutting edge of technology, with the first-ever three-point seatbelt in 1959 and even the first-ever side airbags in ‘94. It even developed the rear-facing child seat in the ‘60s. A few months after revealing its electric EX90 mid-size SUV, Volvo has now unveiled a more compact version, the EX30.

Debuting for the 2025 model year, the EX30, at just under $35,000, offers an affordable electric SUV alternative while still having all the brilliant features that Volvo provides. Powertrain-wise, there are two options available. The Single Motor Extended Range variant offers an increased range of 275 miles between charges, while the motor only gets around 268hp and 253lb.ft of torque. As for the Twin Motor Performance variant, you’ll get only a slightly decreased range of 265 miles but better power with 422hp, 400lb.ft of torque, and a 0-to-60 time of 3.4 seconds, making this the fastest-accelerating Volvo ever made.

Where the EX90 features three rows, the EX30 will have just two. But like all of the marque’s vehicles for decades, the EX30 also prioritizes safety with restraint technology, a favorable structural design, and a feature that alerts you if a biker or pedestrian is nearby when about to open the door. With Google built into the infotainment system, the EX30 is also the first to have the new Park Pilot Assist feature. For fans of the off-road Cross Country versions of Volvo’s crossover wagons, the manufacturer is also bringing a limited-edition Cross Country variant to the EX30, with more ground clearance and 19-inch black wheels, with a bespoke tire option.

Expected to arrive in 2024, the EX30 starts at $34,950. Head over to Volvo’s website to learn more and register your interest.
