After spending the better part of a decade establishing itself as one of Australia’s premier custom bike building outfits, Purpose Built Moto has recently launched a sub-brand specializing in all-electric customs known as GRID Cycles. And after previously pulling the cover off of its KTM Freeride E-XC-based “E-Scrambler,” the Gold Coast customs shop has revealed its next electron and proton-powered two-wheeler with its all-new Street Tracker.
Dubbed the “ST01,” the build is based on a 2016 Zero SR that’s been given the bonafide street tracker treatment, receiving a fiberglass tracker tail section, a new tank cover, and a traditional round headlight set behind a one-off aluminum shroud. In addition to sporting an ultra-tidy integrated single-piece brake light, taillight, and indicator unit, the custom tail section has also been capped off with a black leather saddle with red and yellow accent stitching. The tank cover, which would normally be shrouding an ICE-engined bike’s fuel cell, now acts as a glove compartment (which is big enough to accommodate a six-pack). The donor’s stock battery covers remain in play, though its factory wheelset has been swapped out for a set of 17″ Excel rims fore and aft, and its cockpit now features an aftermarket KOSO display and a set of ProTaper bars wrapped in Vans ODI grips. Generating 106.2ft-lbs of instantaneous torque, the Z-Force powertrain at the heart of the bike affords a top speed of only 101mph, though it gets there extremely fast, hitting 60mph from a standstill in just 3.3 seconds.
Touted by GRID Cycles as “the ultimate city bike,” the Zero SR-based “ST01” is currently for sale in Australia through the builder, with an asking price of approximately $29,000.
