For years, the watch community pushed the myth that ruggedness needed to come in a big package. But, the vintage record says otherwise. Interestingly enough, half the watches that actually went to war were under 36mm.
Serica, the Paris microbrand run by Jérôme Burgert and Gabriel Vachette, clearly never bought the myth. Their new Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer takes the well-loved 38mm 6190 and shrinks it down to a properly old-school 35mm, and somehow does it without giving up anything that made the original good.

Smaller Case, Sharper Details
Let’s get the obvious out of the way: this thing is small. We’re at 35mm across, 9.6mm thick, and a stubby 41.5mm lug-to-lug, which feels much more like a 1940s field piece.
The 7505 isn’t a 6190 run through a photocopier at 90% either. The case is brand new, ditching Serica’s signature twisted-lyre lugs for chamferless ones that curve inward to hug the bracelet. The flat-top bezel now wears polished half-spheres at 12, 3, 6, and 9, little domes that visually stretch the dial out to its cardinal points.

Three Dials, One Easy Favorite
Dial options come in a trio, all done in glossy enamel and, true to Serica form, completely free of any brand logo. The two new “Minute Critical” dials, in black or a really excellent olive green, lay out Arabic numerals every 10 minutes for maximum legibility.

Then there’s the carried-over Tuxedo dial in cream and black. It trades the field-watch utilitarianism for something with a fun retro inspiration, and the hand-applied indices justify its small price bump.

Same Heart, Better Bracelet
Behind the solid steel caseback sits the Swiss Soprod M100, the same COSC-certified automatic powering the bigger 6190 and the 5303 diver. You get 42 hours of reserve and chronometer accuracy of -4/+6 seconds a day.

Serica has also upgraded things with a Bonklip bracelet, which is that flat, jangly heritage design once strapped to RAF pilots. It’s been reworked with curved end links, a sharper taper, and a new Safe-Lock clasp that flips open with the logo.
