Back in 1981, Honda had one of the most delightfully weird ideas in automotive history. The Motocompo was a 92-pound scooter with folding handlebars and footrests, designed to slide into the trunk of the brand’s new City hatchback as part of what Honda pitched as a “six-wheeled lifestyle.”
Buyers mostly passed, production ended by 1983, and the little yellow box on wheels has since aged into full-blown JDM royalty. Now, for its 45th anniversary, Seiko is paying tribute with the 5 Sports x Honda Motocompo HDB010.
36.4mm of Scooter Logic
Rather than reaching for one of the larger 5 Sports references, Seiko built this one on its compact 36.4mm Field case, a fitting call for a machine whose entire personality was being small. The stainless steel case wears a matte black hard coating, measuring 12.5mm thick and a very wearable 44.4mm lug-to-lug.
Inside is Seiko’s workhorse 4R36 automatic with hacking, hand-winding, a day-date display, and roughly 41 hours of reserve. You also get 100m of water resistance and LumiBrite on the hands and markers, so this thing is fully equipped for actual daily duty.
Yellow, Interrupted
The dial is rendered in the Motocompo’s signature yellow and sliced through the middle by a black Honda-branded bar that mirrors the side panel on the scooter itself. The day-date sits inside that bar on black discs, keeping the whole layout tidy.
Our favorite touch? The “AUTOMATIC” text at 6 o’clock borrows the same delightfully ’80s dot-style font from the Motocompo’s own badging.
Turn the Crown, Read the Strap
And Seiko was just getting warmed up. The black crown is engraved with the word “TURN” in a nod to the scooter’s fuel cock, while the gray nylon strap reads “CARRYING POINT” on the keepers and “INSERTION POINT” at the tip, pulled from the markings that told owners how to strap the bike down inside the trunk.
Flip it over and a red-tinted display caseback frames a Motocompo silhouette alongside an individual serial number. Even the packaging plays along, with a box styled after the corrugated carton the original scooter shipped in. Somebody at Seiko clearly adores this thing, and honestly, same.

Limited to 8,000 individually numbered pieces, the HDB010 lands worldwide in September 2026. US pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but confirmed UK pricing of £340 (~$457) puts it squarely in impulse-buy territory for a limited automatic. Head over to Seiko’s website to keep tabs on it.
