Ever since NOMOS put a shimmering gold dial on an Ahoi a few years back, that sand colorway has been a fan favorite summer timepiece. And with watch sizing continuing to trend downwards, it only makes sense that NOMOS would make something a bit breezier for the summer season.

Say hello to the new Ahoi neomatik sand and sky, both sporting a more compact 36.3mm case.

The Sand Dial Earns Its Keep

Let’s talk about that beautiful dial for just a moment. It’s a warm, faintly grainy gold that feels more akin to a sunlit beach than champagne (fitting for a summer watch), and that texture plays well with light.

An orange seconds hand lives down in the sub-register at 6 o’clock, which has become a go-to contrasting mark for NOMOS. The white Superluminova on the hands and markers glows green after dark.

The Sky colorway is the cooler-headed sibling of the bunch, and follows the same template in pale blue on a blue-black strap.

Less Watch, More Watch

Dropping from 38.5mm to 36.3mm meant dropping the date window too. That swap also brings in the DUW 3001, the in-house automatic NOMOS builds in Glashütte that measures 3.2mm tall.

None of that slimming costs the Ahoi its water credentials. Six screws hold the caseback down, and is water resistant up to 20 atm, or 200 meters (the small whale really helps drive that point down). The crown sits between flank guards and screws down over a red warning ring for extra assurance.

Recap

NOMOS Ahoi neomatik sand and sky

NOMOS moved its shimmering sand dial into the 36.3mm no-date case, and the result is a 656-foot-rated sports watch that’s thinner than most dress watches.
