G-SHOCK Gives Its Fine Metallic Series a Tactical Makeover With Bold Red LCD Displays

Last year, G-SHOCK’s Fine Metallic series furthered the argument that this affordable, durable wristwatch brand out of Japan might still be at the front of the pack in terms of thinking outside the box. Combining stainless steel bezels with metal-looking resin cases and silicone bands, the collection allowed collectors to own luxe versions of several of the brand’s most popular models, but without premium prices.

Now, G-SHOCK has given the Fine Metallic series a tactical edge with red-tinted LCD displays that we’ve seen a handful of times in recent years, most notably on last year’s Black & Bold collection. Let’s take a look…

Four Icons Get the Red Treatment

The four models here — GM-5600, GM-6900, GM-110, and GM-2100 — span G-SHOCK’s design spectrum. The 5600 traces back to the original ’83 model with its square profile, the 6900 remains a streetwear staple with its triple-graph layout, the 110 brings oversized analog-digital proportions, and the 2100 (the “CasiOak”) offers that slimmed-down octagonal bezel that might just be the most versatile model in their catalog.

Each watch pairs a silvery base with red-tinted LCDs reading dark-on-red instead of the traditional white-on-black. It’s a nod to tactical cockpit displays, though the metallic aesthetic here leans more urban than military. When you press the backlight button, the white LED further illuminates the warm red layer.

Tough Silicone Band Construction

Revealed after a decade in development, the Tough Silicone Band combines silicone flexibility with a vapor-deposited metallic finish on the underside to complement the stainless steel bezel. A urethane film protects against scratches, while the band loops are actual stainless steel. From a distance, this reads as a full-metal watch.

Newer Materials, Classic Features

The stainless steel bezels get both hairline and mirror finishing, but to keep weight and prices low, the cases are glass fiber-reinforced resin that are incredibly shock resistant. You still get all the classic G-SHOCK hallmarks, like mineral glass, 200m water resistance, and quartz movements with three-to-five-year battery life. The analog-digital models (110 and 2100) add world time, while the 2100’s hand-shift feature moves the analog hands out of the way when you need to read the digital display.

Recap

G-SHOCK Fine Metallic Red LCD Collection

G-SHOCK just dropped four new Fine Metallic models with red-tinted LCD displays—the GM-5600, GM-6900, GM-110, and GM-2100 all get the tactical cockpit treatment with silvery bezels and that decade-in-development Tough Silicone Band. They’re launching in Asia around $242 and should hit the US in the $250–$300 range, which keeps them way more affordable than the full-metal versions while still looking the part.
