Doxa’s 250T GMT “Great White” Turns Into a Blue-Glowing Jellyfish in the Dark

Doxa and Topper Jewelers have been collaborating on limited-edition releases for a few years now, and they’ve landed on a winning formula. They take one of Doxa’s classic SUB dive watches, give it a fully luminous white dial, and theme it around the great white sharks that hunt in the waters off California’s Farallone Islands. Last year’s SUB 300 Great White sold out quickly, so they’re back with a second edition that brings the same look to Doxa’s newer, more compact 250T GMT — limited to just 100 pieces.

Downsizing Up

The move to Doxa’s 250T platform makes a lot of sense here. At 40mm wide and 10.85mm thick, it’s a more approachable size than the 42.5mm SUB 300, while the GMT complication adds legitimate travel utility. Doxa introduced the 250T GMT earlier this year as a modern revival of their GMT function, which first appeared in the 750T back in 2006. That original used a funky three-crown system and skeletonized GMT hand — cool, but complicated. The 250T GMT strips things back to a caller-style Sellita SW330-2 automatic movement, letting you adjust the 24-hour hand independently while keeping local time on the primary handset.

For this Topper edition, they’ve ditched the date window entirely. No phantom date position, just a clean execution of Doxa’s asymmetric dial design. It lets the fully luminous dial breathe, especially when that BGW9 Super-LumiNova lights up in blue. Where most dive watches give you glowing indices and hands, this thing turns into a glowing puck of blue light. The effect underwater (or just in a dark room) apparently resembles a bioluminescent jellyfish, which is a heck of a party trick for a tool watch.

Legibility All Around

Doxa’s also swapped the standard skeletonized GMT hand for a simple arrow pointer, similar to what you’d find on a Rolex GMT. It’s a more traditional approach that keeps things legible, even if it means the GMT hand looks a bit closer to the seconds hand at quick glance. The rehaut gets a two-tone 24-hour scale in dark blue, matching the lacquered hour markers and text across the dial. Even the bezel engraving gets the blue treatment.

The caseback continues the collaboration’s shark theme with a custom engraving depicting San Francisco Bay and the Farallones, designed by John Caplan and Wesley Smith of Standard H. A portion of proceeds goes to the Greater Farallones Association, supporting habitat restoration in one of the world’s most diverse marine sanctuaries.

Both the beads-of-rice bracelet and a navy blue rubber strap come standard. The bracelet features a fold-over clasp with push-button micro-adjustment and wetsuit extension, while the rubber strap gets its own steel folding clasp.

Recap

Doxa x Topper 250T GMT Great White

Doxa and Topper are back with their second Great White collaboration, this time applying that fully luminous blue-glowing dial to the more compact 40mm SUB 250T GMT. It’s similar to last year’s sold-out SUB 300 Great White but downsized and upgraded with a caller-style GMT complication for tracking two time zones.
