DOXA has spent nearly six decades being one of the loudest divers in the water. The original SUB 300 practically invented the traffic-cone orange dial back in 1967, and the brand has been leaning into that hi-viz DNA ever since.
But, Doxa is far from a one trick pony, and they’ve been known to lean into more subtle offerings from time to time. And this brings us to the SUB 300 Beta “Frogger,” a 100-piece collaboration with San Diego retailer Belmont Watches.
Killing the Shine
According to DOXA, this is the first watch in the company’s history to wear a fully sandblasted stainless steel case and matching beads-of-rice bracelet. That non-reflective finish is a nod to the quiet utility of early maritime equipment, where glinting metal was actually a liability.
The matte, grained kelp-green dial carries applied black indices with warm vintage-toned lume and three oversized orange hands (legibility stays very much DOXA here). Up top, a black ceramic bezel runs the elapsed-time scale in orange and the depth scale in green.
Straight Out of Coronado
The name honors the Navy frogmen and Underwater Demolition Teams that preceded today’s SEALs. When SEAL Team ONE stood up in 1962, it was based at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, right in Belmont’s backyard. And, the caseback wears an engraved map of the San Diego Bay centered on that exact spot.
The design was shaped by private feedback from active-duty and retired members of the Naval Special Warfare and EOD communities, and every single one of them declined to be named.
The Rest of the Kit
Underneath, it’s the slimmer SUB 300 Beta platform, measuring 42.5mm across and 11.95mm thick with 300 meters of water resistance and a 38-hour Swiss automatic. Each piece ships with the sandblasted bracelet, a color-matched kelp-green NATO, and a stenciled equipment-style travel case. A portion of proceeds goes to the Navy SEAL Foundation, too.
