Bell & Ross Turned Its Square-Cased GMT Into an Aurora-Inspired Lume Monster

Half the fun of owning a tool watch is not necessarily what you put the watch through but rather what the watch is actually capable of. The dive bezel that never times a dive, or the chronograph that never clocks a lap.

Lume is the exception, because lume earns its keep every single night, whether you’re fumbling for a phone charger or checking how much red-eye is left. Bell & Ross clearly agrees, and its newest release leans all the way into the glow with the BR-03 GMT Green Lum.

Chasing the Aurora

The dial is the star of the show, and it wears a vertical gradient that starts green up top and sinks into black at the bottom. It’s a look the brand says was drawn from watching the aurora bleed across a night sky.

The hour and minute hands have been blackened here (they’re polished steel on the standard BR-03 GMT), which gives the whole face a more utilitarian, mil-spec attitude. Bell & Ross also kept its aviation winks intact, from the airplane-tipped seconds hand to the skeletonized triangle riding the 24-hour track.

Lit Up Like a Runway

Then the lights go out, and the Green Lum gets to work. Every numeral, index, and hand is coated in Super-LumiNova C3, and the 24-hour scale on the polished black ceramic bezel gets the same treatment.

Bell & Ross rates the glow at up to 10 hours, which is a ridiculous figure in a world where most watches fade to nothing before you’ve hit REM sleep. The tech was originally honed for pilots and divers, and again, it’s that approach that we love so much about tool watches.

The Same Cockpit-Bred Square Underneath

Beneath the light show sits the familiar 42mm circle-in-a-square steel case, 11.3mm thick with a sapphire crystal and 100m of water resistance. Inside is the automatic BR-CAL.303 (caller-style), a Sellita-based caliber with a healthy 54-hour power reserve.

Bell & Ross sweetens the deal with two straps in the box, a black rubber unit plus an ultra-tough synthetic fabric option.
