Passion for and the never-ending curiosity of the world of spirits have driven The Last Drop Distillers since its launch back in 2008. In that time, the London-based company has uncovered and curated exceptional aged expressions from across the globe, from bourbon to Scotch to rum to cognac, not so much concerned with label provenance or reputation, but more interested in discovering barrels and batches that will imbue the palate with unforgettable flavor.
In just 14 years, The Last Drop has only debuted 28 limited expressions, yielding fewer than 12,000 bottles in total. Its 28th release also happens to be its 2nd Signature Blend, which features the expert curation by one of the members of The Last Drop Assembly — a selected panel of six spirits experts from around the world. The new release — dubbed “Drew’s Blend” after Assembly co-founder and Sazerac Master Blender Drew Mayville — is a marriage of vintage straight bourbon and rye whiskeys from Buffalo Trace that came from Mayville’s personal stock of over 40 different expressions that he’s saved over the years.
Drew’s Blend has been bottled at cask strength (121.4 proof) and features a complex profile of dark fruit, orange peel, and leather, with a beautiful and spicy finish of chocolate and vanilla. This 2nd Signature Blend comes one year after the distillery’s inaugural Signature Blend: a 50-year-old blended Scotch whisky (Release No. 22) curated by Assembly member and The Last Drop Master Blender Colin Scott.
The Last Drop Release No. 28 should arrive by October and will be available through high-end retailers for around $3,999. Each of the 1,458 bespoke 750mL bottles comes in a green leather case with a smaller 50mL bottle for sipping.
