Angel’s Envy Co-Founder Channels Hemingway with New Rye Whiskey Label

Ernest Hemingway once said, “Never a delay kissing a pretty girl or opening a bottle of whiskey.” And while the first requires someone else’s permission, the second only requires a quality bottle of moonshine.

Few historical figures have been more synonymous with drinking culture as Papa Hemingway, largely due to his worldly travels and jet-setting to locales both bustling with activity and off the map completely. Growing again in popularity in recent years, rye whiskey is one of those spirits that’s ubiquitous across the globe, yet with each region’s offering differing slightly in its construction. In the U.S. — Hemingway’s home turf — rye typically pairs with a corn-based mashbill to give us something more buttery and creamy compared to other styles, while maintaining rye’s spicy kick.

Echoing the ethos of the author, Hemingway Whiskey Company, the sister brand of Papa’s Pilar Rum, debuts with First Edition Rye Whiskey. Founded by Angel’s Envy co-founder Steve Groth, Papa’s Pilar Master Distiller Ron Call, and his two sons Jacob and Clayton, Hemingway’s inaugural expression is a blend of 9-year-old Indiana rye (94%) and 4-year-old Kentucky rye (6%) which were then finished in rum-seasoned Oloroso Sherry casks.

Limited to just 972 bottles that each come inside a collectible library book-styled box, Hemingway First Edition Rye Whiskey is set for delivery next month and is available for pre-order now for $150.
