Although not everyone and their mother has a Tesla parked in their driveway the way Elon Musk generally mused upon the manufacturer’s conception, the brand is still looking to appear in your garage whether you own a car of theirs or not. Tesla has introduced their J1772 Gen 2 Wall Connector, an at-home charging source for all sorts of electric vehicles that aren’t made by the Model S-maker.
In efforts to expand Tesla’s charging network across the globe, their newest product surely plays as a competitor to the JuiceBox 40, the latter of which also comes at a surprisingly larger price. The J1772 Gen 2 Wall Connector features a bevy of power settings and comes equipped with a 24-foot long cable, all delivered with a sleek design that many have come to lionize the brand for, on top of their efforts to try and clean up the planet a bit. Accounting for the fact that Tesla already offers their primary Wall Connector that is designated for their vehicles, it should not come as much of a surprise that their latest release will require an adapter to charge any Tesla model — though it does strike us as a bit ironic that a Tesla-branded charger can’t charge a Tesla right out of the box. The company recommends installing the charger with a 50-amp circuit breaker to optimize power, but don’t pull your tools out just yet, as they also mention it’s best to have a professional electrician install it.
Available for purchase now through their online shop, the Tesla J1772 Gen 2 Wall Connector is on sale for a relatively humble $415, as opposed to the $500 rendition that is intended exclusively for Tesla sedans and SUVs.
