Snap Delivers On Another Physical Gadget with Its Palm-Sized Pixy Drone

You’re probably familiar with the idea of using Snapchat on your phone, but its parent company’s technological know-how has led to some other unique gadgets, too. Half a decade removed from Snap’s innovative Spectacles, the company has introduced the Pixy, and it’s arguably the most user-friendly drone on the market.

The drone consists of a front-and-rear-facing camera in addition to its four flying modes: Hover, Reveal, Orbit, and Follow. These can be accessed by using the switch that sits atop the Pixy. The aptly-named Hover mode leaves the camera floating where you place it for a steady photo. Next, we have Reveal mode, which sends the device higher to provide a wider shot. This is fairly standard stuff, until we get to the two most interesting modes in Orbit and Follow. The former provides a 360-degree view of your surroundings, while the latter simply buzzes around you as it captures footage, acting as your personal selfie drone.

Though it comes as no surprise, the Pixy serves as an ideal accessory for those who use Snapchat, as it is primarily built around the idea of shooting your photos and videos for you to share on the app itself, resulting in a better view and diminishing the need to take selfies with your phone. The small-scale new release weighs a mere 3.5 ounces, but its size shouldn’t dictate just what it’s capable of, as its rechargeable battery is built to take on as many as eight flights when fully charged.

Snap’s new gizmo is a great reason to make your way back to the app in case your old Snapchat habits have since been supplanted with TikTok. While you can pre-order the Pixy Drone today starting from $230, don’t expect it to arrive at your doorstep for the next 11 weeks at least.

Purchase: $230+
