SEGA’s Second-Generation Mini Genesis Is Packed with 50+ Games

The SEGA Genesis (known as the Mega Drive in Japan and elsewhere outside North America) is one of the most beloved gaming consoles of all time, which is why it received special treatment when SEGA revitalized it with the Genesis Mini. Over three years later, the gaming company realized that it could outdo itself, now revealing the second-generation packed with more power and, more importantly, extra games.

The revamped release’s library boasts over 50 iconic games, whereas the original Genesis Mini only offered a total of 40. Another major difference between these plug-and-play consoles is that the Mini 2 will feature SEGA games that were released on SEGA CD in addition to the old-school cartridges. SEGA is yet to unveil all the available titles, but some of those mentioned include Sonic 3D Blast, Virtua Racing, and several hidden gems exclusive to the original console.

Aside from its revamped software, upgrades to the latest SEGA include its surprisingly smaller size and a new controller. The Genesis Mini 2 comes equipped with SEGA’s later 6-Button Control Pad instead of the three-button option given with the original Mini. And while gamers are no longer restricted to the pixelated, 16-bit graphics of yesteryear, it never hurts to give these nostalgia-inducing games another look.

Relive the good old days with this brand-new release. The SEGA Genesis Mini 2 is slated to release on October 27 in both Japan and the U.S. and is currently available to pre-order exclusively on Amazon for $104.
