Action cams have come a long way since the first GoPro dropped in 2004, and are starting to reach the same image and video quality as your average digital camera. Insta360 is one of the many labels that’s pushing the tech forward in the space, and they’ve just dropped the X4 Action Cam, the label’s best action camera to date.
Boasting a new 5nm AI chip, the X4 is capable of shooting 360° in 8K (a first for the company) and 5.7K/60FPS for immersive action shots, along with 4K/100FPS for some sick slow-mo footage, and an HDR video mode that enhances color in the highlights and shadows. You’re getting 72-megapixel photos, and the Single-Lens Mode lets you use the X4 as a traditional action cam that shoots 4K/60FPS. The FlowState Stabilization feature ensures that your footage isn’t shaky, and there’s a 360° Horizon Lock mode that keeps your footage level even if you’re rotating the camera. The new 2290mAh battery is another powerful addition to the cam, giving you 67% more battery compared to the X3 and 135 minutes of recording time at 5.7K/30FPS.
On top of the impressive hardware features, the X4 offers some AI editing capabilities, giving the cam the ability to track subjects and keep them centered on its own, along with the ability to reframe shots and detect subjects. As for durability, the X4 can handle temperatures down to -4°F and be submerged in up to 33ft underwater (or 164ft with the Dive Case). The 2.5″ touchscreen is also made with Gorilla Glass for some added peace of mind and protection.
The Insta360 X4 Action Cam is available now for $499, and there are ten bundles to choose from, ranging from the base bundle starting at $499 to $650 for the Invisible Dive Bundle.
