New headphones come about bizarrely often nowadays, and that’s an understatement. With a slew of options boasting similar specs and prices on the market, it can be challenging to choose the perfect pair. However, French audio manufacturer Focal just unveiled one of the most impressive models we’ve seen.
From a sonic perspective, the open-back silhouette boasts state-of-the-art elements you won’t find in a typical pair of headphones, paving the way for high-fidelity audio with no passive or active correction. It includes two full-range 40mm drivers with a Beryllium-crafted M-shaped dome, conjoining to deliver strikingly immersive dynamics and neutrality. The brand’s engineers made a voice coil from copper and aluminum to enhance the playback prowess.
While they sound great, the Utopia headphones arguably look even better. They were composed in Focal’s France-based workshops using refined materials like genuine lambskin leather, forged and recycled carbon, and aluminum. These come together to deliver an inimitable look that is as comfortable as it is unique. The earcups’ look was inspired by Yin & Yang, as the headphones aim to fuse thoughtful design with high-fidelity sound — in other words, the perfect balance. And while its honeycomb grille serves as a distinct part of its look, it also ensures decompression of the speaker driver, providing an upgraded listening experience.
While you can book a demo to test the headphones through Focal’s website, the brand’s revamped Utopia Open-Back Headphones are available to purchase for $4,999.
