High-quality sound is no longer exclusive to pricey and monstrous sound systems, and the last few decades have proved that with innovations in headphones and portable speakers. Even though plenty of companies now have access to build solid consumer electronics, trusted labels with history, like Bang & Olufsen, are still the best to do it. When Bang & Olufsen dropped the Besound A5 earlier this year in April, it marked the release of the label’s most powerful portable speaker to date. Now, the Danish company is back with the Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminum, an aluminum take on the original speaker sporting a detailed grille made with thousands of aluminum discs.

This new Spaced Aluminum finish is handcrafted and finished in Denmark and features a total of 3,500 aluminum discs. Bang & Olufsen wanted to capture the unique texture of aluminum while honoring the company’s long history of working with the metal. Flexing its design prowess, B&O made the aluminum discs look like they’re floating on the grille, resulting in a neat optical illusion that complements the futuristic look of the speaker nicely. Circles have long been a part of Bang & Olufsen’s design palette, so this design is celebrating that alongside the label’s history building with aluminum.

On top of this new metal design, you get the same sound and build quality as the original Besound 5. The speaker has a powerful woofer for deep bass, uses RoomSense acoustic tech for better sound in different spaces, and has four onboard amplifiers. It also offers IP65-rated resistance and a 12-hour battery life with a built-in wireless charger to keep the party going.

The Bang & Olufsen Beosound A5 Spaced Aluminum is available now for $1,499 – a $400 increase from the original Beosound A5’s price, but the craftsmanship and sleek design seem to justify it.
