When you see the words “Red Wing” your brain probably conjures up job sites, raw denim, and of course, a beautiful pair of moc toes aging gracefully on someone’s third resole. We can almost certainly guarantee what your brain doesn’t picture, and that’s a tee box.
And yet, buried in the brand’s 1927 catalog sits a golf shoe. Now, with an assist from LA golf label Malbon, that forgotten chapter is back in the form of the Red Wing Heritage x Malbon Moc Oxford.

The 1927 Deep Cut
Red Wing’s Number 404 was a tan, elk-lined sport oxford with non-slip Gro-Cord soles, and it was pitched at golfers nearly a century ago. The brand kept a foot in the game into the mid-century, but then quietly walked away from the fairway.
And that makes this collab Red Wing’s first golf shoe in more than 70 years, and we have to say, we’re instant fans.

A Shop Moc, Reworked for the Course
The starting point is the Shop Moc Oxford, the low-profile cousin of the Classic Moc boot. The upper is full-grain, oiled Oro Legacy leather from S.B. Foot Tanning Company, which is the tannery Red Wing has owned for decades. Like most Red Wings, it’ll scuff, patina, and probably look better the worse you treat it.

It rides on the No. 23 last from the 1950s, which means extra room through the forefoot and instep. Golfers who’ve suffered through narrow performance shoes will appreciate that immediately.

The Rare Golf Shoe You Can Resole
The signature wedge sole stays, but the spikeless Traction Tred outsole wears a noticeably toothier lug pattern than the flat crepe tread on the standard Shop Moc. The whole goal here is a silhouette built to bite into turf, but one that also won’t chew up the clubhouse floor.
This is a real deal work boot at its core, and: that means Goodyear leather welt construction. While the rest of the golf world sells foam sneakers that are bound to breakdown, Red Wing built a golf shoe you can resole indefinitely.
For context, the standard Shop Moc Oxford runs $309.99 on Red Wing’s site, so the golf treatment carries roughly a $90 premium.
