Norda’s 055 Dyneema Trail Runner Broke a 250-Mile Course Record Before It Even Launched

When it comes to new releases, Montreal’s norda has never really played the sneaker industry’s annual refresh game. The Canadian outfit only releases a new silhouette when there’s a real gap in its lineup to fill, and founder Nick Martire treats every model as a purpose-built tool rather than something to juice the numbers every quarter.

Last year’s 005 was the scalpel, a stripped-down trail super shoe built for race day speed. And this new 055 is the sledgehammer. It’s an all-terrain, all-distance bruiser designed for the biggest mountains and the longest hauls.

Body Armor for Your Feet

Like its siblings, the 055’s upper is woven from bio-circular Dyneema, a fiber that’s 15x stronger than steel by weight and more commonly found in bulletproof vests. Despite the tank-grade resume, the material stays light, breathes well, and drains water when the trail decides to become a river.

New for the brand is an integrated knit sock collar, a first for a company known for minimalist heel designs. It works alongside a rigid, structured heel to lock the foot down and keep mountain debris out. Even the sawtooth laces are spun from a Dyneema blend, because apparently regular laces weren’t tough enough.

More Is More Underfoot

Where the 005 chased minimal weight, the 055 goes the other direction with a taller stack and deeper lugs. The midsole is 100% Arnitel TPEE with a resilience rating above 75%, which puts its energy return in shouting distance of road super shoes. It also holds its mechanical properties in extreme heat and cold, so no bottoming out in Death Valley or the alpine.

Underneath sits a bespoke norda x Vibram soleplate that combines both Megagrip Elite with Litebase construction. That pairing helps trim the sole weight by a reported 30% while still delivering the all-season traction that makes sketchy descents feel a lot less sketchy.

Winning Races With the Tags Still On

Here’s the part that should make the competition nervous. Rachel Entrekin wore the 055 to an outright win at the 2026 Cocodona 250, breaking the course record with a run of just over 56 hours in a shoe nobody could buy yet.

norda’s trail team manager Jason Schlarb has been racing it through the Colorado high country, while polar explorer Ray Zahab put it through the wringer in Death Valley. Consider it thoroughly stress-tested.
