If someone stops and asks you what sneaker comes to mind when you think of the most classic shoes, it’s likely that a Nike silhouette will pop into your head. It’s also likely that it would be something from the Air Max lineup (if they weren’t Jordans) because few sneakers have been able to offer as much style and functionality as the Air Max shoes have (thanks in large part to those iconic Air Units). While Air Maxes haven’t traditionally been considered outdoor shoes, Nike is looking to change that with the Air Max Flyknit Ventures, a pair of trail-friendly runners slated to drop next Spring.

Up top, you’re getting a breathable Flyknit upper to keep things breezy, but the real star here is the bulky, weather-resistant sole on the bottom. It’s been raised to blend with the middle of the shoe, offering more protection and a modern look, complemented by the weaved laces, padded collars, and dual pull tabs on the tongue and heel. The famous Air Max units are back and on full display (in their usual position at the heel), offering that legendary cushioning and support

Nike has been killing it with their outdoor drops recently (especially through ACG), and these rugged Air Max Flyknits are the perfect blend of street-friendly style with a rugged construction that can handle the trails. While this drop isn’t a part of the ACG line, it’s clear that the work over there has had an influence on Nike’s techwear/outdoor drops.

The Nike Air Max Flyknit Venture doesn’t have a release date quite yet, but they’re expected to drop around Springtime in 2024 for $180, rocking the Black/Cacao Wow/Velvet Brown you see featured here. You can keep an eye out for them through Nike’s official channels, especially the SNKR app.
