Nike ACG Is Turning Its Best Trail Runner Into a Hiking Boot with the Zegama Hike

Nike’s outdoor-focused ACG label has long been one of our favorites for how it seems to hit the nail on the head in terms of blending form and function. However, following a relatively slow 2025 in terms of shoe drops, All Conditions Gear has kicked off 2026 with a bang. Not only did they become the official clothier for Team USA during the Winter Olympics, but they also recently announced a welcomed revamp of the Ultrafly and Zegama trail runners (neither of which were previously ACG shoes).

Now, the Zegama gets a sister model, but not for running. This time, it’s an all-out hiking boot.

From the Track to the Trail

The Zegama name traces back to 2022 when Nike introduced the ZoomX Zegama as its first max-cushion trail runner, borrowing ZoomX foam from its road lineup and translating it to rough, off-road terrain. The name itself comes from Zegama-Aizkorri, the legendary Spanish mountain ultra.

Now in 2026, ACG Director of Footwear Brenden McAleese and the team took the logical next step, essentially asking: if athletes are running 100 miles in this thing, how little does it need to change to become a serious hiking shoe? The answer, it turns out, is not that much.

Not Your Average Hiking Boot

The Zegama Hike is a mid-cut boot, which immediately sets it apart from the running line while still keeping the silhouette from going full mountaineering. These aren’t your bulky boots but remind us more of what adidas has done with its Terrex line.

The forefoot and toe box follow a trail-specific last with extra room to make descents more comfortable. Underfoot, the midsole is a dual-layer stack with trail-tuned ZoomX foam sitting directly beneath the foot for a plush, responsive feel, while a more rigid protective foam cradles beneath it for durability and stability on uneven ground.

The upper features rubberized overlays, reinforced toe and heel guards, and a precise ankle gaiter to keep debris out. The outsole features your classic Vibram Megagrip for wet and dry surfaces with a wider base that further boosts downhill control and balance.

For testing, prototypes were run through 8-to-10-hour hikes across Oregon and the Alps, alongside fit testing with a run club in Korea and an urban hiking group in L.A., so these have already proven themselves in the field.
